Long Hump Day

I had such a long day yesterday. Literally and figuratively speaking. I kept stuffing something simple up at work, in the process killing a few trees, and I just wanted it to be over so I could go home but I couldn't, coz my manager was leaving for CNY leave, and there was a deadline to meet.

Was exhausted by the time I got home (almost 8pm) and still had to go for futsal at 10pm. I needed the exercise. Through a friend, I got in touch with another group of girls, and this was a 'proper' training session. I'm sure I'd improve a bit if I keep going, but the coach wasn't exactly the most friendly or welcoming figure, so I'll probably stick to my original plan of going every alternate week, and keep going every other week to what had become my regular futsal night - Tuesdays - with my brother's friends.

Met up with Kim for lunch on Sunday, then with Suddy, Brenton (who's here on holiday til CNY), and Yin (Brenton's gf) for a drink. Such a nice day. Also bought myself a pair of shoes for RM40(!), so was very pleased. Shoes for 40 in any currency is a pretty good (if not fantastic) bargain, I think.

POP!

The words that people have used to describe my new hairstyle so far range from 'nice' to 'drastic'. 'Drastic' I can understand - my natural hair is heavy, long, and STRAIGHT. As for 'nice', I'll take the compliment, even if I'm not entirely sure that they themselves were convinced ;) But then there was one brutally honest comment: "looks a little dry." Ouch! Talk about bursting a girl's bubble!

The hair's relaxed a little bit, but I think I may have ruined the curls a little by tying it up for sport and clipping it half-up for work. And I'm pretty sure it's not dry.

But that's nothing compared to having to deal with someone who is older than me and acts like she's still in high school, in one of those 'cool girl' cliques. It's like living in the 'Mean Girls' movie. Sometimes you just want to shake her and make her realise that she's just not that cool. Just immature.

Quarter of a century

Must be quite the milestone to reach your 25th birthday. People keep reminding me I'm a quarter of a century old.

The week leading up to it did not show encouraging signs that it was going to be a great birthday, but it worked out quite well in the end. I had a lot of work to do, and I went in to the office early yesterday morning to try and avoid having to stay late to finish my work. As it turned out, I stayed late anyway. Colleagues kept telling me to go home since it was my birthday! But friends that I was supposed to meet for dinner couldn't make it right after work. I didn't mind, anyway. There was enough work to keep me occupied...

We ended up at a new-ish place in Bangsar Shopping Centre called WIP - not "Wery Important People", but "Work in Progress". Apparently the owners decided to open up for business to get input on what customers thought about the interior, before completing it later this year. If you ask me, it was perfectly fine the way it was. It was so unique!

I had dinner with Stevo and Suddy from IH, and Kelly, a friend from squash. Despite having never met the guys before, I think Kel quite enjoyed their company. We had some pretty interesting conversation, and the food was quite good, if not on the slightly pricey side. It was definitely quite a popular place - we turned up at about 8 without reservations, and it was fully packed. About 45 mins, a walk about BSC, and a couple of temporary tables later, we were finally able to sit down and think about ordering some food.

I got not one, but 2(!) calls from Ben *yippee* Also a slice of chocolate brownie and a slice of cheesecake from 2 very sweet workmates. I was very touch-ed. I also bought myself 2 music CD's. So all in all, I think it was a good day. Thanks to everyone who made it so enjoyable!

Toilets

Warning: this may be kind of a gross post to read if you've just had a big meal.

I once read somewhere that the cleanest toilet stall is usually the first one closest to the door, because people seem to go for the middle stalls. I don't know about the ones that are furthest away, but generally from my observations, people do seem to skip the first one or 2 stalls.

Now, I'm usually happy to take the first stall. But I have come across a bit of a predicament at work. You see, there are 3 stalls with toilet bowls to sit on, and the 4th, the one furthest from the entrance, is a squat toilet which I generally try and avoid. (Think about it - pee splattered all over your pants, or even worse, your leg - eew, no thanks.) So, I take the first stall. People often miss it because when the main toilet door is open, it obstructs entry to that stall.

My gripe is this: why, when someone decides to do a number 2, of the 3 toilets you sit on, do they always seem to choose the middle stall of to do their 'business'??!?! It stiiiinnnnkkkkkssss. Do I then use the 1st or 3rd stall? The 4th stall is not really an option - I've already explained why.

In the mornings, between 8 and 8.30am (which is when we officially start work), it's even worse. All four stalls would be occupied by people doing number 2s. This is when I try to avoid going to the toilet at all. Seriously, wouldn't they be more comfortable doing it in the comfort of their own home before they came to the office?

Home

My second trip home in a fortnight. And since I had a bit more time this round than last, I decided to perm my hair. Why? Because as gloriously straight as my hair can be, it also gets really boring when it's just straight and black. It took quite a while - 3 1/2 hours or so, and it wasn't even done properly by the assistant, so the hairdresser/owner offered to wash out the styling product and restyle my hair, but by then my bum was aching from sitting in the chair for so long.

Left to right: Argh, watch out for the crazy alien contraption; a few hours later, after the curls had loosened a little; back view of hairdresser's work.

It's a very different look, and one that I never thought I'd go through again after perming my hair in my early early teens. It's been 12 years since I last permed my hair! Apparently this style makes me look more grown up...Even dad likes it! And the highlights that I had done about a year ago, give a bit of colour and dimension to the style - otherwise, it'd just be this mass of big black hair.

Being home is nice. It's nice to know that somethings don't change. But on the other hand, it's a little daunting to realise that you have changed but the things and/or people around you haven't. It's as if you live in parallel worlds, and some things can affect you, but not them...not at all.

Nearly missed my flight again last night - this time no thanks to the heavy rain, traffic jams and hopeless traffic cops. Luckily, thanks to my very kind aunt and a staff member at KLIA who checked me in even though check-in was meant to close already, I managed to get on the flight just in time...So a million thanks to everyone who helped to make this trip home possible :)
