We Will Rock You/ 48 hours in Singapore

Had such a good weekend in Singapore. Went down to catch We Will Rock You, the musical at the Esplanade Theatre with my bro, a friend from uni, Jeremy, and a former schoolmate, Garnet. Stayed with Jacqui, and was with this lot from about 12 noon to 3 am the following morning. Not that I'm complaining. It was an awesome weekend, and went by waaay to quickly as far as I was concerned. It was the perfect pick-me-up after an unusually hectic week at work (by my standards, as I only have 6 months under my belt thus far) and I didn't quite get to catch up on the sleep I needed to. Oh well. Small price to pay :)

The show itself was pretty good, although I have to say that I wasn't too impressed with the Killer Queen's performance. But MiG Ayesa and Sivan Raphaely (who played Galileo and Scaramouche respectively) just took my breath away. After their performances, I just thought, wow. Whoever sang No One But You (Only the Good Die Young) was pretty awesome too.

Being a matinee show, we decided to have lunch together at Chijmes beforehand; my brother suggested Dim Sum at Lei Garden. So good; I think I've gotten too used to modern/posh dim sum. When I was home over Easter Weekend, I had coffee shop dim sum, which I used to like, but am really put off by the taste and smell now. It smelt really...porky.

Anyways, back to Singapore. We had drinks at The Cavern at Boat Quay after the show, then had dinner and watched Liverpool/Arsenal at the same place, followed by more drinks. Jacqui, Tim and Mike showed up again, and hauled my tired self to Pump Room at Clarke Quay. I'm not sure what time we got there, but the next thing I knew, it was 3am and closing time.

After a very quick breakfast with Jacqui and Garnet, I was back on the bus and back to reality - a life with few friends outside of work. The weekend gave me taste of what life would be like in Singapore. But perhaps it is just because I was there for the weekend, and everyone knew they just had one day to see me. Precious moments to make great memories.

If I did have many friends in KL, I wouldn't get to see them much, anyway. The past week at work was only marginally better than the week before, and that includes being called in to work yesterday (a Saturday). I have hardly exercised in 3 weeks and it's making unhappy and feeling really like a real slob. Certainly did not help that I had just pulled into Hartamas for kickboxing when I got the call from my manager yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind having to work lots, I'd just rather bring work home and at least be able to exercise rather than sit in the office for 12 or more hours straight and leave when it's far too late to go for a kickboxing class. It's extremely frustrating. That about sums up the way I feel. Frustrated.

I so look forward to Melbourne at the end of this month, but have a funny feeling that the next fortnight leading up to it and the weeks after my prolonged absence are not going to be pleasant.
